Eveready Energy Saving 9 watt GU10 3500k Light Bulb replacements.
9 Watts ( Equiv to 45 watt standard Halogen)
OK, lets cut to the chase here:
QUESTION:
How can Energy saving GU10 lights rated at only 9w be as bright or as good as the Halogens I have already?
I mean, the Halgen GU10's are much cheaper and last long enough, plus they are bright. WHY DO I NEED TO CHANGE?
ANSWER:
This was an argument that raged in our house for nearly two and a half years. I wanted to use energy saving lamps (11 watt) and the missus wanted to be able to see what she was doing. For a long time the only energy saving lamps i our house were in my room (office). She always said how dim it was in there.
Then we had a loft extention, we had to have all flush fitted lighting with GU10 Halogens (which I hated) but I am not the boss am I? So in they went.
I am not going to bore you with the gory details, but our Electric bill went from being quite normal, we had eventually got energy saving bulbs downstairs, but then it took a drastic turn for the worst.
The Electric Bill is frightening, the ONLY change we had was the Halogen bulbs, 18 of the buggers.
Our bill was up by 1500% or somthing like that (I'm guessing), its a LOT anyway.
So I finally got my good lady to let me get some Energy saving GU10s, or Rather we both Decided to Bite The Bullet and shell out a lot of money for a heap of bulbs. All we could find were Bulbs for 12 -20 Quid each... Sod that!.
We were worried about how bright or not they would be, we only had four lights per room, would they be enough?
I tried all kinds, and it came down to THREE MAIN QUESTIONS:
WHAT WILL BE MY INITIAL OUTLAY?
HOW MUCH WILL IT SAVE ON MY ELECTRIC BILL?
WILL THEY BE BRIGHT ENOUGH?
WHAT WILL BE MY INITIAL OUTLAY?
I got the cheapest bulbs that were made by a reputable and recognisable company: EVEREADY
The cost works out at only £4.45 Per Bulb when you get a pack of 10 , enough for most folks (Yes OK smarty pants, they cost me a bit less now, obviously. But not at First, I had to pay full price once you know!).
HOW MUCH WILL IT SAVE ON MY ELECTRIC BILL?
This is where a little Math comes in handy:
Normal Halogen GU10 Bulbs at 50w each x 18 = 900 watts (a Kettles Worth)
Eveready GU10 Energy savers at 9w each x 18 = 162 watts (a PC's Worth)
Sorry, I'm not very good at Math, but I can see that the Second number is a lot lower than the first...Thats Good.
WILL THEY BE BRIGHT ENOUGH?
The first thing I noticed was that when you switch on the lights, they come on LOW POWER and take a minute or so to warm up. AND the Light is COLD and WHITE
HOWEVER
It took me a couple of days to fully appreciate that the light output is actually very close to DAYLIGHT and I actually prefer is to the Halogen.
Now this may just be me, but its not at all bad and it saves a lot of money in the long run.
The Whiter Light is different, but the whole family has decided we like them. That is the ONLY REASON I AM SELLING THEM.
If I didn't like them, I wouldn't. (That's not to Say I'm right, but I think I am and thats good enough for me)
ONE THING to take note of: The BULBS are BIGGER than Normal, so you MUST have a good amount of space behind the Light Socket to accomodate the New Bulbs.
Does your "Socket" have a Spring and is there plenty of space Behind the Old Bulb?
YES? Then Go For it.
You will save yourself a fortune and I can WHOLEHEARTEDLY Recommend them.
Thats all I have to say on the matter.
